Abandoned Ellis Island – Hardhat Tour

Welcome to another non-Disney post of mine,

After the shocking success of Castle in the Woods, I realized that some of our exploration posts can have a home on this blog. A few times per year, the Save Ellis Island group hosts a hardhat tour of the closed parts of Ellis Island which they are trying to restore and open to the public. These are the TB wards, the hospitals, the mortuaries, the schools, and the holding areas for millions of souls. To say I had a hard time properly expressing the burden of doing right by millions of people who passed through is an understatement. I hope you enjoy the photographic journey of 207 photos from arriving on Ellis Island, to exploring the abandoned portion, to the operational main hall today…. Click on any photo to enlarge it. Please let me know if you have any feedback.

Enjoy this slice of history,
