Welcome to George Town, Grand Cayman! The Disney Fantasy stops here on its Western Caribbean itinerary, and it’s a lovely island. We decided to do the Discover Native Cayman and the Saltwater Forest excursion and truly enjoyed it. On this excursion, you are taken on a short bus tour that stops by Seven Mile Beach, Hell (a craggy rock formation and gift shop), and historic homes before dropping you off for a boat-based tour of the mangroves and an opportunity to see how the other half lives.
After our booked excursion, we had a few extra hours and took my friend’s suggestion to hit up the Sunset House. This is a local diving resort known for incredible food and gorgeous sights over the bluest water. Sunset House is a $10 cab ride (for however many you can fit in a van!) from the port. You have to head here! Of course, the final pics are two things you should grab in port: Local beer and Cuban rum – both at great prices, and not found in the States.
An added bonus to Grand Cayman: It’s a tender port (a boat takes you from your ship to shore, as the water is so shallow), and thus affords you views of your beautiful ship without a dock in the way. Also, many of you are curious about how tendering works and how strenuous it is (I’ve got a mobility issue, so I know I was googling this myself!) – it’s easier than getting into a Jungle Cruise boat at Walt Disney World.
I hope you sail soon,
